Federal Program Offers Cash to Cover COVID-19 Funeral Costs

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced a new program that offers cash to families to cover the costs of their COVID-19-related funerals. The new program covers up to $9,000 in funeral expenses, and the money is intended for families who experienced a death due to COVID-19 after Jan. 20, 2020. As of Dec. 6, the program has paid out over $1.5 billion in cash to help victims of the disease. There have been over 800,000 deaths associated with COVID-19 in the U.S. alone.

The FEMA has set aside $2 billion to reimburse eligible families for their COVID-19 funeral costs. The federal government is reimbursing up to $7,000 in funeral costs for eligible families. Those whose loved one was killed by the virus after Jan. 20 can apply for the cash reimbursement after this date. To qualify, the deceased person must have died in the U.S., have a death certificate, and have a signed statement from the coroner or medical examiner or other certified official.

The program is intended for families who have lost loved ones in the Covid-19 epidemic. The funds are available to eligible families. The death certificate of the deceased must be signed by a coroner or medical examiner that states that it was caused by COVID-19. The family must also provide other documents verifying the death. If the deceased died in New York or Long Island, they will have to provide evidence of the cause of death, including a death certificate.
