Waimea Canyon is an escarpment of the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, ten miles long and three thousand feet deep, located on Kauai, Hawaii. The name Waimea, which means “reddish water” in Hawaiian, is a reference to the red soil that once dominated the area. To explore Waimea Canyon, you will need a permit. You will need one if you plan to hike or camp. Advance reservations are required for camping and hiking.
