When it first opened, Elitch Gardens was located at 38th Avenue and Tennyson Street in Denver, Colorado. It was a full-blown amusement park with lush botanical gardens, live theatre, picnic pavilions, and barrels of 50-cent dill pickles. But by the end of the 20th century, the park had outgrown its original site. Consequently, the Gurtler family started looking for a new location.
Sandy Gurtler took over the management of Elitch’s in 1985. As there wasn’t much room for expansion at its previous location, the park decided to move. A new location was found in the Central Platte River Valley, which had previously been a Superfund cleanup site. The park opened at the new downtown location on May 27, 1995. The park is located adjacent to Interstate 25 between Pepsi Center and Empower Field. It is the only amusement park in the country that’s located in a downtown area.
Although the long-term future of Elitch Gardens is uncertain, Meow Wolf’s partnership with the park is a welcome development. The company’s new rides are a unique attraction, and the company’s community-relations efforts in Denver are bolstered by the addition of mobile tickets. Teenagers were a major problem for the park this season, but they were able to adjust their policies and are no longer prohibited from the park. The park’s classic roller coaster, Twister, opened in the year 1944. Despite the fact that it was the only roller coaster in the area at the time, it is still the tallest and fastest ride in the park. Besides the two-ringed Wildcat, other rides include the Thunderbolt and Half Pipe. These rides all have different names and histories. Some of them are modeled after the original, while others are modified versions of older versions.
Elitch Gardens was first opened in 1892. After the Great Depression, the park moved to downtown Denver. In the late 1940s, Six Flags purchased the property for $170 million and renamed it Six Flags Elitch Garden. CNL Lifestyle Properties acquired the park in 2015 and it is now owned by Hershchland Family Entertainment. Until then, the park’s most popular rides were the revolving swings and the tower of doom.
Elitch Gardens has two rides: Meow Wolf and Ghost Blasters II. These are both dark rides and repurposed Ghost Blasters II, an indoor cart-on-rails ride. The Meow Wolf ride features neon-spiked art and is the oldest ride in the park. This dark-themed thrill ride is the most popular one at the park. Theme parks also feature a lot of different types of art.
The original Mister Twister was an acclaimed wooden coaster that opened in 1965. It was 96 feet tall and was modeled after the famous wooden coaster. It was a popular ride, ranked among the top ten rides in the country at the time and lasted until Elitch Gardens moved to their new location. In 1994, the park closed down its old site. Knoebels rebuilt it as the new “Twister II” to keep the ride going.
Elitch Gardens was originally located in an entirely different location from 1890 until 1994. It had lost its charm during this time and had to move to a new location. The park was located within walking distance of the Pepsi Center and Mile High Stadium. The current owners of the park have a vision for the land, but they aren’t saying too much publicly yet.
