Although almost everyone worries from time to time, the level of worry tends to increase when a threat or problem arises. Some people report having been worriers all their lives, and some develop generalized anxiety disorder later in life. The causes of worry differ from person to person, but a majority of people worry about something important in their life. Many worry about financial issues, work-related problems, or relationships. The worry itself is normal, and does not affect their daily life, so they do not need professional help.

Worrying about something can make you feel anxious or depressed. In most cases, worrying is about an imagined future event that doesn’t exist yet. Moreover, these events usually don’t have any chance of happening, so they can’t be ruled out by worrying. As a result, worrying only intensifies the negative emotions and decreases your ability to cope with the situation. So, the best way to deal with worry is to live in the present.

Worrying is a natural response to negative circumstances. Besides causing you to be more stressed, worrying can also lower your immune system. It is a waste of time and energy. And it doesn’t help your mood either – you’ll be in a more positive mood once you’ve learned to let go of worrisome thoughts. If you’re struggling to trust God, ask him to reveal to you any unbelievers in your life or unhealed wounds that you’ve had in the past.
