History of Thai foot massage

The history of Thai foot massage can be traced back thousands of years to ancient China. The practice was brought to Thailand by Ayurvedic doctors about 2000 years ago. The purpose of the massage is to stimulate pressure points along energy lines. A wooden acupressure tool is used to stimulate these points, which are also sensitive to hand pressure. A Thai foot massage can be as simple as rubbing the feet, or it can be as complex as a full-body massaging session.

The history of Thai foot massage goes back a lot further, to the early twelfth century, when the Chinese Emperor Wendi first used the practice. It continued to evolve and become popular in Japan, Korea, and other Western countries. By the late Manchu Dynasty (1643-1912 A.D.), the practice of reflexology began to spread to the Western world. Today, the tradition is widespread and practiced by millions of people all over the world.

As with all massage, this form of Thai foot massage focuses on the reflex points in the feet. The reflex points are linked to the organs of the body and are called Sen lines. If blocked, disease manifests in the physical body. This form of massage works to restore balance in the body and mind, by opening the Sen lines. It is very similar to the Meridian lines used in Chinese Medicine. There are about 10 major energy lines in the human body, which are linked to each other.
